Chapter 5 : Ontology management - Storing , aligning and maintaining ontologies

چکیده
1 Ontologies need to be managed In the OnToKnowledge project, several ontologies are developed and used in a number of applications and case-studies. Those ontologies need to be stored, sometimes aligned and their evolution needs to be managed. All these tasks together are called ontology management. These issues are not only relevant in the OnToKnowledge project, but are also in a broader context.

Ontology Versioning as an Element of an Ontology-Management Framework
As ontology development becomes a more ubiquitous and collaborative process, the developers face the problem of managing multiple ontologies: comparing, aligning, and merging them, maintaining versions, translating between different formalisms. We present a uniform framework where the users can do many of this tasks, leveraging data and algorithms developed for one tool in another. We describe ...

Semantic Web was proposed to make the content machine-understandable by developing ontologies to capture domain knowledge and annotating content with this domain knowledge. Although, the original idea of semantic web was to make content on the World Wide Web machine-understandable, with recent advancements and awareness about these technologies, researchers have applied ontologies in many inter...

Traditional OA systems are not as suitable for aligning LOD ontology schemas; for example, equivalence relations are limited among LOD concepts so that OA systems for LOD ontology alignment also find subclass and superclass relations. Four recent approaches for LOD ontology alignment are BLOOMS (BL) [1] and BLOOMS+ [2], AgreementMaker (AM) [3], WikiMatch (WM) [4], and Holistic Concept Mapping (...
متن کاملOntology Engineering Methodology
In this chapter we present a methodology for introducing and maintaining ontology based knowledge management applications into enterprises with a focus on Knowledge Processes and Knowledge Meta Processes. While the former process circles around the usage of ontologies, the latter process guides their initial set up. We illustrate our methodology by an example from a case study on skills managem...
متن کاملChapter #2.5 BIOMEDICAL ONTOLOGIES
Ontology design is an important aspect of medical informatics, and reusability is a key issue that is determined by the level of compatibility among ontology concepts and among the theories of the biomedical domain they convey. In this article, we examine OpenGALEN, the UMLS Semantic Network, SNOMED CT, the Foundational Model of Anatomy, and the MENELAS ontology as well as descriptions of the b...
